Davidian Films LLC has partnered with JerFilm Productions out of Fayetteville, NC for exclusive access to the new RED One digital camera.
 
Their first RED production was with the NC Baptist Foundation in Cary, NC.  One of the biggest values added by the RED One is a depth of field that is equivalent to 35mm Cine Lenses.
 
“For the first time in a loooooooooong time we didn’t have to put the camera in a different state during the interviews to create that shallow depth of field,” says Director David Acuff.  “That was fantastic and the image was beautiful.”
 
Jeremiah McLamb of JerFilm was on
hand as the 1st AC to walk through
setup and keep the RED One in top
form though out the production.
 
The production was shot at 2K, loaded
into Final Cut at Apple ProRes 422
resolution and exported as MPEG2
for a DVD Studio Pro output.
 
“We chose a simple production to
test drive the RED because we didn’t
want to risk a complicated shoot with a lot of actors and a million details hanging in the balance,” Acuff says.  “Basically, we had talking heads with teleprompter.  And we had the Canon A1 standing in the wings...just in case,” he laughs.
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
 
But the A1 was never called for as the RED performed to spec.  More RED shoots are in the planning phases as Davidian Films continues to push the envelope in the unpredictable world of digital cinema.
